CULTURAL POTPOURRI| Misto’s “A Taste of Love”

BARELY  have we finished eating the tikoy and buchi we received from the recent celebration of the Chinese lunar New Year of the Fire Rooster and here we are now preparing for Valentine’s Day. Davao’s happy lifestyle writers were recently invited by Seda Abreeza, Davao’s popular urban lifestyle hotel, for the launching of its romantic offerings in time for the celebration of the country’s much awaited Season of Love.

“The New Year of the Rooster started on a high note for Seda Abreeza as the hotel’s Misto got its recognition as one of the country’s Best Restaurants for 2017 as named by Philippine Tatler (yes sir, spelled with one T). Philippine Tatler Dining is the Pinoy foodies’ bible as it features the best restaurants, bars, and dining news for the country’s affluent and cosmopolitan readers on the subject matter of the Philippine’s culinary scene. Misto, Seda Abreeza’s all-day dining restaurant, is now included in the Philippine Tatler’s Best Restaurant Guide—both in print and online,” Seda Abreeza’s charming Communications Officer, Faith Dimaano, happily informed us.

GM Ken Kapulong leads the Seda Abreeza Department Heads and Misto staff to a victorious toast

In his welcome message to the guests, the suave and always articulate GM Ken Kapulong, who looked dapper in an all black suit with a matching Gucci leather belt, mentioned, “We are very grateful for this recognition from Philippine Tatler. I share this achievement with the team, especially the team behind Misto in Seda Abreeza led by the talented sous chef Giovanna “Bang” Flores. This will surely challenge us to keep making our diners’ experience at its adventurous best; and continue on innovating savory treats for everyone. Guests will have more to look forward to in Misto this year.” Okay, GM Ken, we take your word for it. That’s a promise that is not meant to be broken.

Seda Abreeza’s Misto was the first hotel restaurant to graciously launch its Valentine’s offerings last January 30, 2017. It was truly a showcase cum celebration of Misto’s exciting cuisine and what it has to offer this Day of the Hearts. “It’s going to be a fine dining experience for those romantic foodies who wish to spend the red letter day right here in Misto. We will offer them a night to indulge in an elegant wine pairing dinner with a mini buffet featuring Misto’s signature dish—the slow-cooked Angus roast beef which comes with a spring-themed salad, and a dessert spread. And you get to dine while listening to popular romantic songs of love performed live by the best Davaoeno singers and musicians,” enticed chef Bang.

Sous chef Bang and her kitchen team gave their word that they will make sure that the lovely occasion will be something to remember by from the loving diners’ first bite to their last. The Valentine’s Day menu will whet your appetite starting with the pear, arugula, lollo rosa, walnut and blue cheese salad; creamy roasted pumpkin soup; and a rich tasting coconut milk panna cotta. For starters, Rothbury Estate Chardonnay will be served. Next comes the main course consisting of slow-cooked roast beef slices and Parmesan crumbed salmon which come served with buttered purple corn, haricot vert and carrots. The wine suited for the main course is Bicicleta Merlot. An array of special Valentine’s Day cakes paired with Queen Adelaide Moscato will be served for dessert.

Indeed, Misto’s culinary showcase of a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day last January 30 was as impressive as its Philippine Tatler recognition. GM Ken Kapulong and sous chef Bang Flores were all smiles and glowing with their recent victorious feat. And we were all smiles and glowing as well with the delightful and celebratory buffet spread presented to us that special evening. To think that my doctor had advised me to start my diet to loose weight on that same day.

For inquiries on Misto’s “A Taste of Love” fine dining and/or Seda Abreeza’s Valentine’s Day room packages which are offered from February 10-15, please call Seda Abreeza at tel (082) 322-8888 or email dvo@sedahotels.com.

Congratulations, Seda Abreeza. My special thanks to GM Ken Kapulong, sous chef Bang Flores and Communications Officer Faith Dimaano. More power to you all.
