Cultural Potpourri | Celebrating the Pinoy Artistry of Aranaz with Plains & Prints @ Chimes

IT WAS IN 1999 when three artistic and entrepreneurial women banded together and established “Aranaz.” Aranaz, their fashion label, made a name for itself in no time after being recognized in utilizing exotic prints matched with Pinoy impeccable craftsmanship in the creation of beautiful modern bags. In the almost two decades of its fashion existence, Aranaz has truly made its mark in the production of high fashion Filipino bags. The brand enjoys a following in both local and international markets; and prides itself with the fact that some of its patrons are members of European royal families.

Last Friday the 13th of April, Mother Lily, Cindy, Camille and yes, even Clark Yap welcomed the fashionistas of Davao City in an afternoon of summer delight and luxury shopping with Aranaz for a Plains & Prints preview. With the magic of Annie Paz Lim, the second floor of Chimes Boutique was transformed into a tropical summer place complete with flying flamingos, pineapples and a rich foliage of tropical plants to “welcome the season with pieces that will make you dream of whimsical hues and usher in a color-happy shopping experience where you are sure to find all of the season’s essentials,” according to the Manila-based Chimes Business Unit Head, Ia Alano-Vergel de Dios.

“The Aranaz for Plains & Prints collection is a celebration of Filipino artistry and tradition.

With a laid-back and effortlessly elegant resort vibe, the collection features eight stylish handbags and seven fashion pieces that combine the unique design elements of Aranaz with Plains & Prints’ signature silhouettes and fabric designs,” described the gorgeous Amina Aranaz who came dressed simply in white tee shirt and skinny denims but still managed to look like a diva ramp model. Amina Aranaz also gave styling tips to Davao’s fashionistas as she shared her insights and even personally styled some of Chimes’ loyal patrons.

Plains & Prints adapted the Aranaz aesthetic by translating the luxury label’s iconic flamingo, coconut and pineapple prints into various pieces that radiate summer sophistication in clothes that are comfortable in their understated elegance and effortless style. Indeed, the clothes are designed with the summer heat in consideration.

Through the years, Chimes has been an important venue for fashion events of Davao City. It has staged fashion activities which welcomed celebrities like Vania Romoff, Camille Co, Isabelle Daza, Liz Uy, Bobbie Yan, Maureen Disini, Charina Sarte, Patty Ang, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, my fave Joyce Orena, to mention some.

“We promise to present quality fashion events showcasing good high-end products. After all, Chimes is all about quality shopping,” said the Lady behind Chimes Boutique, Cindy Louise Yap. That same afternoon, Chimes introduced Shane Lim of “My Home Kitchen” who served the happy guests with her tasty treats, drinks and cocktails.
