CULTURAL POTPOURRI| Café Uno celebrates American Cuisine

AMERICAN cuisine has been deeply ingrained in the Filipino’s palate that it has wonderfully blended into the country’s cuisine along with Chinese and Spanish cuisines, among others.  Of all nations in Southeast Asia, American culinary culture has impacted most strongly on the Philippines.  What Pinoy does not love fried chicken, hamburgers and fries, steaks with gravy, barbecued ribs, just to mention some of America’s culinary legacy to our country.  Every single day, both young and old Pinoy foodies patiently make their queue to order at McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken just as they do at the Pinoy version, Jollibee.

To celebrate the American Independence Day and the Filipino-American Friendship Day, the Waterfront Insular Hotel’s Café Uno features an all American buffet of contemporary American gastronomy well-planned by the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao’s Executive Chef Victor Barangan.  The hunk of a chef is inspired by the country’s past and present love for that “walang kamatayang” Pinoy fantasy that is the American dream.

“The Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao’s American-themed lunch and dinner buffets run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from July to September, 2016.  I am recommending for them to try my specially concocted dishes like Cajun Seafood, Chili Fries, Mac and Cheese with Truffles, Cowboy Ribs and Corn Bread, hot and spicy Buffalo Wings, Pulled Pork, just to name some.  The barbecue classics keeps the hungry foodie returning for more,” said chef Victor Barangan as he added, “I put real love into our food. It is about sharing, celebration and feasting whatever the special occasion you are observing.”  Oh yes, a bottle of the all American Coca-Cola will surely enhance the Pinoy’s taste for American cuisine.  At Café Uno, guests get 50% discount every Monday on International Cuisine for lunch; and 50% off on the American-themed lunch buffets on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays; as well as on the Filipino cuisine for lunch on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Do take note as well, alcohol lovers, that at the Vinta Bar, a bucketful of Buffalo Wings is available every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.  The Vinta Bar also holds a Buffalo Bucket Challenge between 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.  The diner who gets to eat the most number of juicy, spicy chicken wings at a specified time limit will be honored with a prize.

Over at the La Parilla, diners may savor a hearty and healthy meal of the authentic hotpot shabu-shabu scheduled daily from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m.  The shabu-shabu dinner is good for a group of five or six diners.

Honestly, the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao is still the sprawling hotel with the best location for me in Davao City.
