Creation on CARD officer passed on second reading

THE CITY Council passed on second reading the ordinance creating of City Archives and Records Department (CARD).

“In order to centralize the voluminous records of the City Government of Davao, there is a need to create the CARD,” the resolution read.

The ordinance was pushed by Councilor Maria Cherry Ann Bonguyan, committee chair of appointments and government reorganization.

Based on the draft of the ordinance, the CARD will be placed under the direct supervision and control of the City Mayor’s Office. It will be headed by a department head and a city government assistant department head.

The CARD will also have Administrative Division, takes charge and provides administrative support functions for the efficient and effective implementation of the department’s mandate; Records Management Division, coordinates with the city departments/offices for the efficient creation, utilization, maintenance, retention, storage, protection and disposal of all temporary city public records; Archives Collection & Access Division provides technical assistance in the gathering, proper storage and protection and availability of all permanent city public records; and Archives Preservation Division undertake conservation and restoration of all permanent City public records.

Under the proposed ordinance, the City Budget Officer shall annually allocate funds for the operation of the City Archives and Records Office that will be sourced from the General Fund.

The proposed ordinance pertains to the request of Mayor Sara Duterte for legislative authority for the proposed creation and establishment of the City Archives and Records office. It was approved on first reading on July 4.
