Council cancels two donations

TWO DONATIONS are set to be canceled by the City Council. The items are a single bungalow unit equipped with solar power system worth P2.5 million and metal posts for traffic use.The supposed donor of the solar-powered bungalow unit is identified as Chan Young Lee, a Korean National.

Based on the records, the City Council passed on first reading the proposal on Feb. 14, 2017. The committee on rules, privilege, laws and ordinances conducted a committee hearing on March 1, 2018 and April 13, 2018. But Lee did not attend both committee hearings despite notices sent to his address indicated in the proposed deed of donation.

With this, the committee recommended to close the item “considering that the donor can no longer be contacted and it is uncertain if he is still interested to donate the single bungalow unit.”

In the case of metal post donation, the United Steel Technology signified to donate 100 metal posts with inscription of No Parking-Loading/Unloading Only and “No Loading/No Waiting.”

But the committee on rules, privilege, laws and ordinances recommended the rejection of the deed of donation for the “reason that the design and specifications of the road signs are not in consonance with that allowed by law because the same contains the name of the donor as a sort of advertisement.”

Both of the items are set to be discussed in second reading.
