Cops lauded for campaign vs smoking

THE Anti-Smoking Task Force has commended police units in the city for intensifying the campaign against smoking in in public places.

On Thursday, Dr. Domilyn Villareiz, chair of the task force, said the body will recognize the Mobile Patrol Group, Talomo precinct, Sta. Ana precinct, San Pedro precinct, and Sasa precinct for having the highest number of apprehensions of violators of the new Comprehensive Anti-Smoking ordinance.

The highest number of apprehensions went to the Talomo precinct at 810, followed by Sta. Ana with 676, San Pedro station with 466, and Sasa station with 349.

“It can be used as part of their commendation for promotions,” said Villareiz, adding that the officers of the units will receive the certificates.

Based on the data released by the City Treasurer’s Office, P700,965 were collected out of the 2,168 violaters as of last month.

“For last year, there was a total of 4, 613 apprehended violators. We are already nearing last year’s apprehensions,” Villareiz said as the city will commemorate tomorrow the 13th year of the campaign.
