Cop to face case

DON’T bring your gun when you’re having a drinking session.

A rookie Davao City Police Office (DCPO) cop who passed out in a drinking session will be facing administrative case because his drinking buddy toyed with his government-issued gun in Barangay Toril Proper, Toril District on Friday.

The incident led to a shot-out as the gunman fought with the responding police officers.

Chief Insp. Ronald Lao, the commander of Toril police precinct, said PO1 Arnulfo Villaver Jr., a member of DCPO’s Public Safety Company (CPSC) detailed at the Stallion Base in Mulig, Toril, will be charged for negligence.

Villaver’s friend, Julius Keinn Cahucom, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Tugbok, Mintal, will be facing multiple criminal charges.

Lao said Villaver and Cahucom were having a drinking session at Penggays Resto bar along Dela Cruz Street in Toril on Friday night.

As the two drunk too much, Villaver passed out.

Cahucom took Villaver’s gun, a 9mm glock pistol with serial number PNP 72379, loaded with 13 bullets. He indiscriminately fired it.

Other customers and residents sought for police assistance and members of the Saavedra police community outpost arrived at the bar.

However, Cahucom fired towards the responding officers.

A shoot-out ensued, hitting Cahucom in his stomach.

He was then rushed to St. John Hospital, also in Toril. He was later transferred to the Southern Phillippines Medical Center (SPMC).

Responding police officers recovered the gun.

Police are preparing charges against Cahucom. He may face charges for alarm and scandal, illegal discharge of firearms, and resisting arrest, among other.

Lao said Villaver should be charged for negligence of duty.

“An administrative case must be filed against him by the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB),” he said.

Lao said Villaver claimed he properly kept his gun and that he only fell asleep.

“The question is why was his friend was able to get (the gun) from him,” Lao said.
