Cop killed in road accident

A NEWBIE police officer died and his motorcycle back rider was injured in a vehicular accident along MacArthur highway in Dumoy, Talomo District Monday evening.

Sr. Insp. Maria Theresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the fatality as PO1 Roy Dizon Cabural, Jr., 24, a DCPO agent assigned at Marilog Police precinct.

The wounded back rider was identified as Jana Celine Pore, 24.

The other involved driver was identified as Jess Cabigas, 33, a resident of Purok Bonifacio, Sto. Tomas in Davao Del Norte. He was driving the Mitsubishi flatbed truck with a plate number of MBT 196.

According to initial investigation, both vehicles were traveling along the southbound lane of the highway heading toward the direction of Toril at 11:55 p.m. Monday.

Cabural, on his motorcycle, was following the truck.  Upon reaching near a gasoline station and a softdrink plant in Dumoy, Cabural bumped into the rear portion of the truck.

Due to the impact, Cabural died on the spot while his back rider was severely injured. The motorcycle was damaged.

Responding Central 911 paramedics rushed Pore to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

The cadaver of Cabural was brought to Villa Funeral Parlor.

In an interview with Chief Insp. Oliver Navales, the precinct commander of Talomo police, they are still conducting further investigation on the case to determine its cause.

They are not discounting the possibility that the police officer felt asleep while driving the motorcycle or he was drunk at that time.

“We have yet to talk with the back rider,” Navales said.

The truck driver was temporarily held at the Talomo police precinct.

“We are waiting for the decision of the victims’ families,” Navales said. “They can either file a case or settle with the truck company.”
