City tourism master plan underway

THE CITY government will craft a tourism master plan beginning this quarter in the effort to boost tourist receipts moving forward.

In partnership with Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, Regina Rosa B. Tecson, head of City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), said yesterday in the weekly Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao-Annex that they are currently completing the terms of reference of the plan.

The terms of reference, she said, is expected to be completed in May, which would signal the creation of the document.

“This will cover the long term projects of the city,” Tecson said.

In the Executive and Legislative Agenda (ELA) of the city government, the master plan would be spearheaded by the CTOO. This, the agenda cited, is “to have a comprehensive and holistic approach of planning.”

The ELA bared that the formulation of the plan will have a budget of P2.5 million.

In the short-term period, Tecson said they are pursuing projects like the development of Sta. Ana Wharf, Magsaysay Park and Chinatown. The Sta. Ana Wharf, for instance, is envisioned to have a terminal for tourists.

The CTOO is also asking the Davao City Investment Promotion Center to help urge investors to venture into putting up additional hotels and convention centers in the city. At present, there are about 8,500 accommodation rooms.

“We need additional hotels and convention centers especially now that the city is positioned as destination for different events. Their move to conduct events here is a very happy problem for us,” Tecson said.
