City to join in ME trade fairs

THE CITY government is planning to join trade fairs and conferences next year in the Middle East as a way to boost the exchange of goods and strengthen ties with the investors.“We are coordinating with Mindanao Development Authority and Islamic Chamber of Commerce Inc. to participate in the trade fairs and conferences in the Middle East,” said Ivan Cortez, officer-in-charge of Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC).

Of the trade fairs and conferences, he told the TIMES in an interview at the office of DCIPC that there is a possibility that they would be included in the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The meeting, he said, will be a great venue for them to promote the city.

Based on the website of Dubai World Trade Center, the meeting is “the region’s first emerging markets foreign direct investment (FDI)-focused event to offer a perfect blend of trade fair and intellectual features aimed at enriching institutional, corporate and individual investors attending with a comprehensive set of guidelines for their future investment decisions in high growth regions.”

Reports earlier cited that the recent AIM in Dubai was joined by the provincial government of Davao del Sur where Governor Claude Bautista was invited to serve as a presenter. The province showcased its investment potentials from agribusiness to tourism.

The event will be on its fifth edition next year.

In the website of AIM Congress, “the theme of the fifth edition of the AIM 2015 will be focused on ‘Sustainable Development through FDI Induced Innovation and Technology Transfer.’ The event will held from 30 March- 1 April 2015 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center.”

“It will be the occasion to gather the world’s leading academics, experts and practitioners to discuss and debate how essential is innovative activity for growth and development and how FDI can contribute to sustainable economic growth through transfer of technology and the supportive investment policies that are needed to attract and retain investment of the right kind,” the website added.
