City to hand out deworming tablets, vitamin supplements

THE DAVAO City Nutrition Office will be giving out deworming medicines to the different barangays this month.

“This July we will be starting to give deworming medicines to the community including schools, day care centers, and elementary schools,” nutrition officer Eloisa Simbajon said, adding that the activity is done twice a year.

She added they would also be giving weekly iron and folic acid to students, from grades 7 to 10. This is a program with the Department of Education, Department of Health and City Health Office.

So far, they have yet to provide the number of target schools to be provided with medical supplements as they are awaiting the list from DepEd.

Meanwhile, nutrition officer Gladys Rodriguez said the deworming medicines is being incorporated into their office under the feeding programs of the City Social Service and Development Office and some non-government organizations.

Further, Simbajon said aside from the two medical supplements to be given next month, they will provide vitamin A medicines to communities. This will cover babies from six months until children seven years old.

Vitamin A, Simbajon said, will protect the children from infection, diarrhea, pneumonia, and measles. These programs are only limited to cover all public schools in the city and the alternative learning school.
