City gov’t updating dev’t plan, says exec

THE CITY government is updating the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) to include proposed projects and programs, a top official said.

Ivan C. Cortez, head of City Planning and Development Office, told the reporters in an interview yesterday at his office that the plan has to be updated as it has yet to be changed since 1996.

“We are now almost complete in drafting the plan,” Cortez said. The last plan was meant for the period 1996 to 2021.

The CDP serves as a basis for the crafting of Local and Development Investment Plan and Annual Investment Plan.

“Unlike before, we are looking to have a CDP that is viable up to six years,” Cortez said.

The draft plan included inputs from infrastructure sector, economics sector, environmental sector, administrative sector and social sector.

Based on the draft CDP, Cortez said among the proposals include the need to put up three bus terminals such as in Buda, Toril and Panacan and bicycle lanes. The need to have bicycle lanes, for instance, was recommended by infrastructure sector, environment sector and social sector.

The need to update the CDP was among the priorities of the city government.

“The instruction of the mayor is to fast-track it,” City Administrator Zuleika T. Lopez said earlier, citing that it includes the need to bolster infrastructure development in the city as way to address potential urban problems.

Cortez said they also reviewed on what have realized in the 1996-2021 CDP. Under the 1996-2021 CDP, he said among the projects that were recently pursued include the coastal road, sports complex and food terminal. (KMF)
