CITY GOV’T: Aboitiz firms are top taxpayers

Aboitiz-led power companies topped the list of biggest taxpayers in the city, data from the city government bared.

Based on the data, distribution utility Davao Light and Power Co. topped the list of business taxpayers, while sister company Therma South Inc. ranked first in the top 10 real property taxpayers.

“These are the companies that have contributed to growth of the Davao City by religiously paying the taxes imposed by the local government,” the city government said in a statement.

The firms were awarded on Monday during the city’s “Pasidungog: Garbo sa Dabaw” at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

In the top 10 business taxpayers, Davao Light was followed by Mindanao Shopping Destination Corp., Holcim Philippines Inc., Coca-Cola FEMS Philippines Inc., LTS Retail Specialists Inc., Mindanao Shoppers Daily Destination Corp., DSG & Sons Group Inc., Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp., Mindanao Corrugated Fiberboard Inc. and Supervalue Inc.

The other top real property taxpayers, meanwhile, were Davao Union Cement Corp., Accendo Commercial Corp., Southernpoint Properties Corp., SM Prime Holdings Inc., Halifax Davao Hotels, Davao Sunrise Investment and Development Corp., New City Commercial Center, Mindanao Corrugated Fiberboard Inc. and Supervalue Inc.

Lemuel G. Ortonio, chief of Davao City Investment Promotion Center, told the reporters yesterday at the sidelines on the groundbreaking ceremony at Lanang Premier Hospital that the Pasidungog was in recognition to the city’s partners that helped improve the economy of the metropolis.

“We also recognized those different stakeholders like those from the business sector, environment, public safety, agriculture and tourism that contributed in the growth of the city,” Ortonio said.
