City donates 5,000 food packs to CDO

THE CITY government donated some 5,000 food packs and medicines to the local government of Cagayan de Oro, in partnership with private organization Pilipinong May Puso Foundation, Inc.

The city government sent out truckloads of aid to CDO on Saturday morning.

Last week, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte said the city was still considering whether it would give financial aid to CDO, which declared a State of Calamity in an emergency session last week.

CDO was submerged in neck-deep floods, leaving hundreds stranded after flash floods hit the city last week.

Photos of students being trapped in the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) made rounds in social media after rescue from government agencies took hours.

The students were forced to stay inside the school campus for at least 10 hours as vehicles could not make it out of the compound.

Popular shopping malls, such as the Limketkai Mall, also offered shelter to stranded Cagayanons.

According to the CDO City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), the rains that fell last week were almost the same amount that fell during the tropical storm Sendong (International name Washi), which also hit the city.
