City Council wants ‘paperless session’

THE SANGGUNIANG Panlungsod is eyeing the paperless conduct of its regular plenary sessions.

Majority Floor Leader Bernard Al-ag, during the session last Nov. 7, said that the digital workflow of the City Council will be implemented next year.

Al-ag, however, did not elaborate on the process of the exchange in the e-copy to all council members to work on their respective computers during the session. He said that he will attend a seminar next month regarding the innovations on paperless sessions.

He also said the implementation of the high-tech session will results in savings of paper and ink for the printing of agenda, committee reports, and attached reports.

Apart from that, the secretariat is also currently requesting for at least 18 copies of all documents being submitted to the local legislative body for the pertinent actions of the members of the collegial body.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Lanao del Norte conducted its first-ever paperless session at the SP session hall, provincial capitol building in Barangay Pigcarangan in capital town of Tubod in 2015.

The City Council of Butuan City has implemented the Legislative Management, Codification, Tracking and Information System (LMCTIS), which pave the way for the paperless session, which is easier tracking of documents and legislative measures, as well as the planned codification of ordinances on 2012.
