Chocolate Producers’ Forum

 THE GOAL for the city to become the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines could be achieved with consultation, planning, and implementation by the stakeholders, said City Agriculturist Officer-in-Charge Leo Brian Leuterio.

Leuterio read the message of City Administrator Zuleika Lopez who underscored the agriculture and food security as being among the 10 priority sectors of the “Biyaheng DO30″ program of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

City Councilor Marissa Abella, chair of City Council Committee on Agriculture, and cacao grower and award-winning chocolate producer Rosario Puentespina each gave their respective messages of inspiration to the 66 cacao planters and chocolate producers in attendance.

Valente Turtur, Chair of the National Cacao Industry Council, presented the Cacao Industry Road Map interspersed with his observations on current practices.

Semil Tuason of Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao Inc. (CIDAMI) shared technologies on Cacao Post-harvest and Processing as practiced by Casco Cacao company.

Leuterio, in his opening remarks, described the competitive advantage and gaps in the Davao City cacao industry.

UP Mindanao Chancellor Sylvia Concepcion, in her welcome remarks, expressed her wish for the Philippines to be positioned in the world chocolate market.

Workshops on chocolate production and operations were held in the afternoon. Products from the different planters and producers were on display and sale in the Forum.
