Celebrating 100 years of Filipino cinema

THE MINDANAO Film and Television Development Foundation Inc. (MFDTDI) is holding a series of cinema- related events this coming October as part of the 100 years celebration of Filipino cinema.

Among the major activities included the 13th Guerilla Filmmaking workshop that will be held in the four weekends of October ( 7-8, 14-15,21-22, 28-29) the intensive workshop capacitate participants with the various aspects of a popular form of independent filmmaking.

The topics in the workshop include story development and screenwriting, cinematography and sound recording, directing and editing, production design, marketing/promotions/distribution.

Speaking on Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw held at SM Annex Ecoland, Dax Canedo the president of MFTDFI, said that the activities of the foundation is a reflection of a dynamic regional cinema.

“We have active regional film movements here in Mindanao same with Luzon and Visayas,” Canedo said adding that the rise of regional cinema is part of the continuing evolution of Philippine cinema.

Meanwhile, the MFDTFI is still accepting film entries until October 7 for the 15th Mindanao Film festival that will be held this coming December.

Film entries should fit the following criteria: produced in Mindanao, shot by a Mindanaoan filmmakers or films about or related to Mindanao.

One of the highlights of 15th MFF is that it will bring together several full-length films produced in Mindanao which gained acclaim from national and international festivals.

A first of the festival is the Film Development Council of the Philippines Interschool Short film competition. The contest pits together school-based filmakers all over Mindanao.

The MFF is held annually and is the longest running regional film festival in the country.
