Category for youth at Lunhaw Awards

Lunhaw has opened its doors to youths 30 years old and below for this year’s Green Champion Award, a special category aimed at recognizing the outstanding environmental advocates in Davao City.

For the past five years since the start of Lunhaw Awards in 2012, they have excluded the participation of youths in the city-wide search for innovative environmental practices as they only focused on official categories namely.

These categories include Green Building/Urban Greening, Forest – based Initiatives, Organic Agriculture, Energy & Water Conservation, Marine Resource Management, Pollution Control and Education and Advocacy. They are mainly awarded to establishments, trading centers, restaurants, households, and campuses.

“We saw the initiatives of the youths that would not fit for the existing categories so why not come up with a new one that is designed for them,” Tender Ferolin, one of the judges of Lunhaw Awards, said.

Entries of Green Champion Awards will be judged according to its sustainability, innovation and replicability.

This category aims to search for an outstanding youth advocates in the “area of environmental policy, legislation and environmental management.”

This year, 25 finalists were already selected out of 31 entries. From the list, 10 finalists with the best environment practices will receive the Green Champion Awards. (Regina Mae C. Ronquillo)
