Caretaker who allegedly torched farm faces suit

A 30-YEAR-OLD farm caretaker is facing criminal charge for burning a farmhouse in Purok 5, Barangay Tacunan in Tugbok District on April 12.

Rey Perrocho Manlangit, stay-in caretaker of Inliwan farm, was sued for arson and malicious mischief filed by Bienvenida Inliwan, owner of the farm.

According to the police report, Manlangit borrowed a bolo from his neighbor Camilo Aban around 9 a.m. and brought a box of matches from the store of Lorna Aban.

Moments later, the neighbors saw that Inliwan farm house was already on fire. Several bananas and lanzones trees were also cut down. The cost of damage was estimated to reach P60,000.

The neighbors also saw Manlangit running away from the scene before disappearing in a creek.

At 4:30 p.m., a manhunt operation was launched by the Tugbok police which led to the arrest of Manlangit at Purok 1, Barangay Matina Biao, Tugbok District. They recovered the bolo and box of matches from the possession of the suspect.

Manlangit is now temporarily held in the Tugbok police while waiting for Prosecutor Panfilo Lovitos to resolve his cases.
