Campaign to promote cacao launched

The Department of Agriculture Region 11 has launched its campaign to enhance the image of the cacao industry.

Using the hashtags “Stortelling, #CacaoDavao Experience,” Cherry Mae D. Palicte of the agency said the campaign is aimed at promoting the industry as the reigon is considered the capital of the country in terms of production being the source of 80% of total volume that the country produces annually.

“This time we are conducting our own social media campaign (for cacao),” said Palicte, adding that previously the regional office was only into supporting the campaign for the rice industry.

Among those who joined in the launching of the campaign on August 9 at the Apo View Hotel were industry stakeholders and agency officials like Regional Director Ricardo M. Oñate Jr., and Undersecretary Evelyn G. Laviña.

 

The campaign has drawn several participants, among them Ram Villano dela Cruz whose father is Baracatan’s renowned producer of grafted cacao and seedlings. Another entry was that of Cha Sunga of the Bureau of Plant Industry also shared her story of nostalgia from her childhood as she came across the cacao field.

To end on November 15, the first prize winner will receive P20,000 while others will also receive consolation prices.
