DOLE to launch 24/7 hotline
THE DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to launch a new 24/7 hotline on Sept. 1 to report workplace and labor malpractices.

The hotline launch is in compliance with Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III’s administrative order (409, series of 2016) to setup DOLE hotline services.

The launch of the region’s service will be simultaneous to the central office’s launch.

“The hotline aims to provide immediate response to all workers in crisis and emergency situations, and to provide them relief from unsafe, unhealthy, and unjust conditions of work,” said Kriztja Labrador, communications officer of DOLE XI.

Labrador said the hotline will also cater to victims of illegal recruitment and trafficking. It will also accommodate and take action on reports regarding separated workers claiming unpaid wages and benefits, workers engaged in temporary or atypical work arrangements that are not in accordance with labor laws, as well as OFW concerns.

“The 24/7 hotline services will also assist workers who are inquiring about applicable wages, and wage related benefits such as minimum wages, overtime pay, holiday pay, and similar concerns,” she said.

Location and company names are important fields, Labrador said, because this allows the department to refer workers to field offices and to monitor and assess or reassess companies.

Labrador said that once the hotline is up, clients needing phone assistance will be referred to a designated call number. This is because the department doesn’t have a call center in the region at the moment.

The hotline is mounted in part of the department’s Regional Action Plan for the Effective Implementation and Enforcement of Workers’ Rights to Security of Tenure.

Concerns can be directed through the text hotlines 391-3653 for Smart users and 0908-896-8278 for Sun, Talk and Text, Globe, and TM users.

Reports can be made in the following format for Smart: <location> <query/concern/complaint> <company> <name, optional>.

Other networks can report through this format: DOLEXI <location> <query/concern/complaint> <company> <name, optional>.
