Calinan to be validated for child-friendly award

THE COUNCIL for the Welfare of Children (CWC) will be sending in validators to the city for its bid for this year’s Child-Friendly Award.

City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) head Ma. Luisa Bermudo, in an interview at the Grand Menseng Hotel, said that the CWC will be validating the city’s programs for children in validation proceedings to be held at the month.

“Representatives from the CWC, Philippine National Police (PNP), and nongovernment organizations will be here starting Aug. 28 to validate the programs,” Bermudo said.

The primary barangay that would be validated is the city’s model barangay, Barangay Calinan Proper.

The programs of the other 181 barangays will also be validated, but this will be more random.

Bermudo said that the council will pick four barangays, one barangay each from the city’s coastal, highly urbanized, rural, and upland areas.

According to Bermudo, the CWC will validate the programs of the city it designed in 2015.

┬áThe council will examine the children’s programs of the said four barangays.

Last year, the city government won the award for the fourth time. The victories include being awarded the child-friendly prize in 1998, 1999, 2013, and 2014.

Bermudo said that the city was already a Hall of Famer for winning four times.

Last year, President Rodrigo Duterte and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) awarded the city with the award in ceremonies at the Malacanang Palace for its programs for 2014.
