Budget ready: P6-M expansion of RHWC office to begin soon

THE DEPARTMENT of Health has allotted P6 million for the facility expansion of the City Health Office unit.

Dr. Abdullah Dumama Jr., DOH assistant secretary for Mindanao, said they already went through the bidding process to commence the expansion of the Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC), currently located along E. Jacinto Street.

Dumama said the budget, drawn from a bigger umbrella project called the Health Facility Enhancement Program, is allotted for retrofitting of the building to accommodate more floors and spaces for its operations.

“The ground floor is for laboratory, receiving, and consultations, while the second floor will be for offices and counseling,” he said. “The third floor will be dedicated for a conference room.”

RHWC head physician Dr. Jordana Ramiterre said this expansion will begin in at the end of April or during the first week of May.

RHWC is one of the city’s treatment hubs for HIV/AIDS and is also a space where education and prevention efforts are being crafted. Its operations are governed by the local government unit; it is manned by medical teams comprised by personnel capable of HIV/AIDS clinical management—from counseling, testing, support, and monitoring.

Ramiterre said this expansion is expected to create a stronger approach to provision of services and access to drugs for people living with HIV.

This expansion will also provide the facility with necessary tech equipment to effectively manage patient data. It will go a long way in strengthening efforts on reaching out to key populations to control the spread of HIV/AIDS and to correct common misconceptions about the disease.
