Armed men attack Talandang chief in Magtuod

The outgoing barangay captain of Talandang in Tugbok District and his driver were killed by unidentified perpetrators in an attack in Barangay Magtuod, Talomo District Thursday afternoon.

Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the victims as Barangay Captain Reynaldo Tulang Dumagan, 52, married and his driver Fernando Suganod.

Initial investigation showed that the victim and his driver were on board the barangay disaster response vehicle together with his daughter, son-in-law, and other relatives as they were heading to the Davao International Airport in Buhangin.

From Talandang, they were traversing the Magtuod-Tugbok Road. Before they could reach the Magtuod Barangay Hall just near the junction of Diversion Road and Don Julian Rodriguez Avenue (Ma-a Road), a red pick-up blocked the way.

Unidentified armed suspects on board the pick-up opened fired towards the front seat of the barangay vehicle.

A witness told police investigators that he saw the pick-up rushing to downtown proper.

The victims were rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) by the survivors who sat at the back of the vehicles.

But both victims were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Dumagan sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while Suganod bore one fatal wound.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) has yet to reveal evidence they found at the crime scene.

Investigators of the Talomo Police Precinct are still conducting a follow up investigation for
for possible identification and apprehension of the suspect.

Dumagan was the third barangay captain killed during the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.

On Sept. 16, 2016, then Talomo Barangay Captain Artemio Sebastian Jimenez (Talomo District) was killed in a gun attack by still unidentified men on board a white undetermined vehicle along Ecoland Drive in Barangay 76-A, Talomo District around 2 p.m.

Early morning of May 12, this year, Pangyan Barangay Captain Antonio Pardillas Guatno (Calinan District) was killed in an alleged shootout with police operatives who reportedly armed with search warrant in connection to a gun case.
