BOC surpasses collection

THE BUREAU of Customs in Davao has surpassed its collection target for the month of April by 22.44% to P1.8 billion. As of April 26, the Port of Davao has collected P1,825,548,098.10, exceeding its P1.491 billion target with a surplus of over P334.54 million.

With this, Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña expressed his optimism that the Port of Davao can hit its collection target for this year at P19 billion.

“I am saying that we can hit our target with confidence,” Lapeña said.

Lapeña said the past two months — February and March – were the hardest months of the year in collecting port revenues.

In February, he said, two weeks were affected due to the Chinese New Year wherein there was no business transaction in some days. Also it was the month with the least days, he said.

For March, Lapeña said the collection was slowed down by the Holy Week.

But still the local port surpassed its collection on the two lean months.

In February, the Port of Davao collected a total of P2,066,564,903, a surplus of P727,564,903 over its target.  In March, it collected P1,750,472,226.48 with a surplus of P301,472,226.48 over its target.

Last January, it collected P1,77,869,657.45, a surplus of P285,869,657.45 over its target.
