BIR: Don’t forget to file your ITR

THE BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) urged taxpayers to file their income tax returns on or before April 15.

“I am appealing to all taxpayers to file their income tax returns. We also appeal to our corporate income tax filers to support us. As you have seen, we, in the BIR, are exerting efforts to streamline the procedures,” said BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay.

The bureau staged Tax Campaign Kickoff last week at Davao Convention Center.

The Tax Code provides that failure to file or submit any return on or before the deadline will be fined of not less than P10,000 and imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than 10 years.

Dulay said they are urging the taxpayers to file their returns to help raise the revenue collections of the bureau. Throughout the country, the BIR targeted to collect P1.829 trillion in revenues this year, which is a spike from last year at P1.567 trillion.

In Davao Region, the BIR XI has to generate P20 billion to increase from P16.9 billion in revenue collections last year.

BIR XI regional director Nuzar N. Balatero said they are optimistic to hit their target this year, noting the continuous improvement in the economic growth in the region. He said they hoped to replicate the performance last year when they achieved an increase in collections by 18.15% from P14.3 billion last year.

“We are boosting our efforts to ensure tax compliance of the taxpayers in the region,” Balatero said.
