Big firms to attend Icon

BIG companies have confirmed their attendance in the upcoming fourth Davao Investment Conference (ICon) on July 21-22 at SMX Davao Convention Center in SM Lanang Premier, said Arturo M.Milan, chair of the event.

Milan, also a trustee of the of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), said yesterday in Wednesdays @ Habi at Kape in Abreeza Mall also confirmed that President Rodrigo R. Duterte and members of his Cabinet will also be in attendance.

The two-day event is spearheaded by the DCCCII in partnership with the city government.

Despite the recent declaration of Martial Law, Milan said big companies like San Miguel Corp., PLDT, MVP Group of Companies, 8990 Housing Development Corp., Aboitiz Power Corp., Anflocor Group of Companies, BDO, Security Bank, Metrobank and Globe already committed to attend the event.

The conference will also be joined by Land Bank and Development Bank of the Philippines and other businesses in the country.

“There seems to be negative perception due to Martial Law but this Davao ICon is really a go,” Milan said.

The conference highlights the business to business meeting between companies.

Belinda L. Torres, vice president for professional and service ventures of DCCCII and marketing head for Davao ICon, said there would be also business-to-business meetings, which are expected to be joined by about 300-400 companies.

The DCCCII, she said, aimed to make those deals become investments on the ground.

“We hope that they will continue on investing their money here,” Torres said.

 “This year’s investment conference aims to showcase current investment trends and opportunities in infrastructure and connectivity, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. It also includes various trade assistance and projects in the Davao Region through various business matching opportunities and industrial site visits,” DCCCII said in a statement.
