Bato downplays favoritism in distributing cop vehicles

Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa has downplayed favoritism in distributing the newly acquired vehicles in the region.

Most of the new vehicles that arrived in the region are given to Davao del Sur, his home province.
“I am sure that some mayors will react why Davao del Sur gets a complete set while others don’t have (the same),” dela Rosa said during the ceremonial blessing and turnover of the newly acquired vehicles at the parade grounds of the Police Regional Office XI on Monday. He said they prioritize Davao del Sur because the province really lacks vehicles.
Asking the mayors and governors not to be offended, dela Rosa said there will be more vehicles that will be detailed soon to the region that will be distributed to the other Davao provinces.
He said the documents are being processed for the additional vehicles.
Dela Rosa has been reported to be gunning for an elected position in Davao del Sur.
A total of 70 vehicles – 44 motorcycles, 23 Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks and three MAN utility trucks –intended for Davao region were blessed on Monday in a ceremony attended by some city and town mayors and regional police officials.

Of the P57 million-worth vehicles, Davao del Sur got the most — 10 motorcycles, nine pick-up trucks and one utility truck.

The Regional Force Mobile battalion (RFMB) received two pick-up trucks and one utility truck.

The Davao Occidental Police Provincial Office got six pick-up trucks and 10 motorcycles. Compostela Valley got three pick-up trucks and 10 motorcycles. Davao del Norte got one pick-up truck. The Davao City Police Office got 10 motorcycles.

It was not immediately known where the third MAN utility truck will be assigned.

In distributing the vehicles, dela Rosa is expecting for effective and efficient police mobility in responding to incidents and calls for assistance from the citizenry.

“With the turnover of the vehicles to the different police units in PRO XI, we will now expect the Davao police to further improve the mobility,” de la Rosa said.
He said the vehicles will help the police in doing patrols in the streets and communities in the fight against crime, illegal drugs, insurgency and terrorism.

De la Rosa added that the vehicles will also help augment the mobility in search and rescue operations during disasters and calamities.

The MAN utility truck is intended for search and rescue operations during calamities in the region.

The PNP chief thanked the local government units and members of the community who continue to support the police in the continuing campaign for peace and order.

Dela Rosa also revealed that they are working to have a helicopter in every police regional office in the country.
