Back-to-back GET Open titles for Samanodi, Albers

PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL) Interclub campaigner Kuresh Samanodi and lady golfer Rutchie Albers scored back-to-back division crowns, Sunday at the close of the 30th Guillermo E. Torres (GET) Open golf tournament played at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

It was Samanodi’s second straight Class A gross title after winning it last year at the same turf. Surprisingly, Samanodi scored 35 Stableford points, the same total he did last year.
Samanodi’s home turf had him that advantage ever since in which he bannered team Apo Golf for the Aviators Class in the annual PAL Interclub which was held this year in Bacolod City.
Albers also scored back-to-back crowns winning it again with 18 points in the distaff side. She edged closest rival Airene Takahashi who settled for the runner-up with 12. In last year’s edition, Albers had the crown when she fired 23.
Sharing the limelight is veteran parbuster and University of Mindanao Board of Director Atty. Manny Nitorreda who took the Class A gross runner-up with 29 points via countback. Aside from that feat, Nitorreda was awarded with a special prize granted by GET Open overall chairman Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr. for his consistency of joining the tournament for the past 30 years.
Also emerging as Class A winners are Ian Dagatan who won the net crown with 38 while Mike Larrabaster fired 37 to finish net runner-up.
In Class B, Japanese Osamo Ikeda took the gross title with 33 points followed by Jun Horfilla’s 30 while Tony Gumapac took the net crown on a countback next to Ed Pacana after both finished with similar 42s.
Winners in the Class C Division are Ronnie Magsico 24 (gross champion), Orly Ang 23 (gross runner-up), Rex Bergante 48 (net champion) and Glen dela Torre 43 (net runner-up) while Faye Jayno bagged the Ladies Division net crown with 41 and Allyssa Quioque with 32 for the net runner-up.
Some 180 golfers took part in the one-day tournament which was dubbed as the city’s longest running golf competition to date.
Angelita Calag of the Mount Apo Science Foundation received the cheque from Dr. Torres worth P262,400 as beneficiary of the tournament which was one of the highlights during the awarding ceremonies.
