Back-to-back for team King of Hearts

TEAM King of Hearts scored back –to-back wins claiming both Rapid and Blitz events of the recent National Team Chess Championships Mindanao leg played at the NCCC Mall of Davao.

Having the troika of Vince Angelo Medina, Nazario Ubanan and John Paul Lauron, King of Hearts bagged the Rapid event to pocket P25,000, a trophy, medals and brand new chess sets. They edged team M.Sacar Custom Brokers having Mohamad Sacar, Moctar Ali and Nhaid Cosain who followed closely at second place to bring home P15,000, a trophy, medals and chess sets while team WINRAR with Alex Lupian, Ruel Canaveras and Rodrigo Cayatas settled third with P10,000.

King of Hearts also pocketed P12,000 for winning the Blitz category on top of team Jodan Coal. Jodan Coal having Ryan Segarra, Mary Israel Palero and Ryan Conception settled for second place bringing home P9,000 while M.Scar Custome Brokers stood again at the winner’s podium at third for P6,000 in the event organized by the Artillery Foundation of the Philippines Incorporated (AFPI) in cooperation with the Philippine Academy of Chess Excellence (PACE) and JCI Durian City.

Sacar also made his presence felt winning the Blitz category top board one award for P2,000 and a medal while King of Hearts’ Ubanan won the top board two honors for P1,500 and a medal. Team Unilab which settled for fourth place in the Rapid Class was bannered by top board two awardee Lyndon Sombilon who pocketed P2,000 while King of Heart’s Lauron bag the top board three honors for P1,500.

The two-day activity was sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) and World Chess Federation.

AFPI President ret BGen Pedro Biasbas along with AFPI  corporate secretary Emmanuel Martin, Ponti Carlo Aranda of JCI Durian City and IA James Infiesto of the NCFP awarded the winners with their cash prizes and other awards.
