Back to back for Team Classic’s Dumbrique

GARY Dumbrique of Team Classic made back-to-back trips on top of the winner’s podium to shine bright at the close of the 2017 Total Quartz Hot August Races held at the Speed City grounds of the Crocodile Park, Sunday.


Dumbrique first claimed the Quick 8 title at the expense of pre-race bet Vannie Garcia of W-Autosports Racing when he timed at 6.764 second on the 1/8 mile track. He also timed 6.494 seconds in the semifinal beating Benjie Pang of Ground Image on his road to the winner-take-all final round.

Team Classic’s ace driver wasn’t done for the day, Dumbrique along with his tube car “Manong” strode high in the Class A division next past Elben Pang of Ground Image in the finals enroute to his second title of the day timed at 6.654 seconds. He again edged Garcia in the semifinals on a 6.901-second run on a trip to the number one spot.

Jeric Al Layan of JDN-Afrotech came back after a one-year, two race title drought, regaining his winning form in the Class B division. Al Layan strode to the losing bracket before earning his trip to the finals. The crowd-favorite driver of a vintage Volkswagen Beetle won on foul start next to Driftech’s Leuer Ricardo to reach on top of the winner’s podium timed at 9.166 seconds. He cruised past Angelo Ngo Ho of Team Classic for his trip to the finals.

In Class C, Gary Trinidad of Mashado Racing earned his first drag race title as he squeaked past teammate Ronan Zabala in the finals. On board his classic Toyota Corolla, the Wood Thoughts furniture proprietor timed his final run at 12.701 seconds to put him on top of the podium. His way to the finals came off a victory in the semifinals over Santi Julian Solomon of K-Racing timed at 13.070 seconds.

Cash prizes and trophies were given to the winners during the awarding rites led by officers of the Davao Classic and Sports Car Club president Willie Torres along with Junie Samsi of Total Quartz.

Dubbed as the biggest and longest running legal drag racing event in celebration of the 32nd Kadayawan Festival, the two-day motorsporting activity was presented by Total Quartz Engine Oil, the Davao Classic and Sportscar Club Incorporated and Pirelli Tires.
