Arraignment of cop maulers postponed

THE ARRAIGNMENT of the three men accused of mauling a policeman in front of the Ateneo de Davao University-Grade School along MacArthur Highway in Matina on Oct. 31 was postponed yesterday.

Regional Trial Court Branch 15 Presiding Judge Ridgway Tanjili granted the motion for reinvestigation by the accused, Abdul Moamar Malambut Manalao, 23, of Barrio Obrero; Adzmin Bueno Kumayog, 24, of San Lorenzo in Puan; and Harold Barambangan Tomawis, 21, of Parang, Maguindanao.

The three were sued for attempted murder and direct assault for mauling PO2 Ritchi Paul Calago Lozano of the San Pedro Police Precinct.

Police records showed that Lozano asked Manalo to refrain from vomitting at the wall of the school. But Manalo got angry instead and punched him before the group ganged up on him.

After the attack, the respondents were arrested by operatives of Talomo Police Precinct and released them last Nov. 3 after they posted P135,000 bail each.

Meanwhile, The Office of the City Prosecutor has yet to resolve the separate complaint against Marson Jackson Reyes and Nisreen Mohd Khurshid, who are at large. Khurshid is facing rap for obstruction of justice for helping Reyes escape.
