Arraignment for couple in death of 2-year-old boy set on Feb. 21

THE COUPLE who allegedly stuffed a two-year-old boy inside a sack and beating him up with a coat hanger is set to be arraigned on Feb. 21.

Regional Trial Court Branch 33 Judge Lope Calio has set the arraignment of Ronilo and Sara Jane Alca-in at 8:30 a.m. of the said date.

The two are facing trial after Prosecutor Panfilo Lovitos, on Nov. 21, has found probable cause to indict them for murder in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Anti-Child Abuse Law).

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by Jhune Mark Indio Cagalitan, relative of the victim John Earl.

John Earl was killed inside the residence of the couple in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District on Nov.  12.

The boy was in their custody because his mother was working in Bahrain. He has been living with the couple since July this year.

According to the police report, bruises were found all over the boy’s body that caused his death. The autopsy report added that there were old bruises on top of new ones. His ears were also bleeding and there was laceration on his head.

In an earlier report, Chief Insp. Carlito Apilat, precinct commander of Marilog police, said the mother did not know that the boy was being maltreated. Apilat added that John Earl was beaten on Nov. 12 after he urinated on the bed.
