Araw ng Dabaw to draw more tourists

THE CITY tourism office expects this year’s Araw ng Dabaw to have greater impact than last year’s celebration.

Tourism Officer Regina Rosa Tecson said during Wednesday’s Habi @ Kape in Abreeza that a 7 percent increase in tourism arrivals is expected.

In 2017, the city has reached its 2 million mark amidst the implementation of Martial Law, a 7.9 percent increase from 2016’s 1.8 million.

Tecson said that social media posts of people taking pictures with army men and army tanks helped in raising the curiosity of outsiders.

This year, the tourism office has pegged tourism arrivals at 2.2 million.

The draw continues to be meetings, incentives, conventions and events (MICE), a campaign which has been going on for the past years.

Tecson said preparations for the city’s foundation anniversary is underway and that the city needs more facilities, branded hotels and tour guides to be the gateway of the region.
