AMECC, HEDCOR top Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge

TEAMS AMECC and HEDCOR clocked better times than their respective foes to claim separate honors at the close of the 2018 Mount Apo Boulder Face Challenge held over the weekend in Davao del Sur.AMECC having Ronnie Torlao, Jayrald Daraydo, Jorge Andrade and Elmer Bartolo finished the overall trail timed at 8:58.42 to emerge as champions in the All-Male Relay category. They pocketed some P40,000 for that feat that left past closest rivals PNP-PRO XI-B (Jun Adel, Albert Abraham Placide, Derick de Garcia and Germar Marcel) which clocked 9:18.03 for second place and Tapa King (Ronald Dagaang, Ronnie Urdaneta, Marcelo Ecalner and Michael Jan Echalico) at third with 10:42.46.

PNP-PRO XI-B bagged P30,000 while Tapa King settled for P20,000 as cash prize.

Team HEDCOR also made their presence felt when they topped the All-Female Relay class timed at 15:25.12. HEDCOR paraded Judelyn Miranda, Salome Zamora, Emely Avergonzado and Vivian Avergonzado on its roster also brought home P40,000 as cash prize as they left PNP PRO-XI (17:46.26) and Kamikazee (18:17.20) at second and third places, respectively.

PNP PRO-XI was composed of Jessa Arenas,Mai-Mai Abellana, Geigs Castillo and Sharon Marcojos while Fe Justillani, Mildred Valdez, Irene Tan and Dymie Rose Jaro bannered team Kamikazee.

Elias Tabac of team Tri-Buddies Tagum shared the limelight when he won the Individual Open Elite Category crown when he breached the finish line timed at 10:56.16. He pocketed P75,000 cash prize for that feat over teammate Juanito Mahinay (11:11.57) and team Walwal’s Rodel Villaver (11:43.08) who finished second and third places with P55,000 and P35,000 cash prizes, respectively.

Special awards also were given to Christopher Eyao of Purple Health (Fastest Water Tuber 56 min., 7 secs); Elias Tabac of Tri-Buddies Tagum (Fastest Swimmer 2:22.26); Rodel Villaver of Walwal (Fastest Mountain Biker 2:15.13); Juanito Mahinay  of Tri-Buddies (Fastest Runner 7:31.47) and Peter Tumuas of Spartan Ahoo Ahoo (Sportsmanship Award).

Some 50 entries or more which had foreign participants took part in the four disciplines namely the five kilometer water tubing, the 36.6 kilometer mountain bike trail, the 53.5 kilometer trail run and the 12 kilometer road run for a total distance of 107.1 kilometers. The two-day event was presented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Tourism and Visit Davao Summer Festival .

Also supporting  are the National Commission for Indigenous People, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Bureau of  Fire and Protection, Barangay Governments of Tibolo, Sibulan, Astorga, Darong, Coronon, Zones 1, 2,3 and 4, City Government of Digos, Municipal Tribal Council of Sta. Cruz and Barangay Kapatagan, Digos City.
