Ambushed ARMM solon sneaks out of hospital

The controversial Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) lawmaker who was ambushed Monday left his hospital bed Tuesday without informing investigators, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said.

Speaking at the AFP-PNP press briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Wednesday, Sr. Insp Maria Teresita Gaspan, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, said ARMM Assemblyman Sidic Amiril was discharged from the hospital.

“At this point in time, we continue to investigate,” said Gaspan as the investigating team will reenact the incident at the area today to collate more pieces of evidence.

“We are looking at all possible angles… as there were also reports he was involved in illegal drugs,” she said.

She said the authorities could not also hold Amiril as the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group confirmed that there was no warrant issued against him. “As a consequence, we have not placed him under restrained,” she said.

She said that last year, operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the ARMM served a search warrant on the property of the official, but he was not around.

Recovered during the raid were sachets of shabu, firearms and a vehicle as the one who was inside the property was the one charged as a result of the raid.

Before the Monday incident, Gaspan said that Amiril was inside a resort to accommodate some visitors, went to a mall to have a haircut and as he was on his way to his house in the city, he was waylaid.
Investigators went to the hospital where the ARMM lawmaker was undergoing treatment, but the latter refused to give a statement in relation to the incident.
