After Ka Jinggoy: NPA leader yields in Bukidnon

Another alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered in Davao del Sur due to the capture of Zalde Canete alias Ka Jinggoy in Bukidnon, the military said Wednesday.

Capt. Jerry Lamosao, the spokesperson of 10th Infantry Division, identified the rebel returnee as alias Samson, a squad leader of Squad 1, Platoon North, Guerrilla Front 71 of the Far Southern Mindanao Region, a resident of Barangay Sulit, Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Lamosao said the 39-year-old surrendered to soldiers of 73rd Infantry Battalion on May 15 around 7:20 p.m.
During interview with soldiers, Samson said that he surrendered due to fear for his life. He knew that Ka Jinggoy was apprehended in Bukidnon.
He said fatigue and hardships are common in the movement due to the relentless military operation.
Further, he revealed that he escaped and left the NPA group under alias Jerry in Sitio Inaburan, Barangay Tamban, in Malungon, Sarangani Province.
Accordingly, Samson surrendered one M16 rifle with a defaced serial number, three long magazines, 79 rounds of ammunition, and one iCom radio. He was brought to the 73rd IB headquarters in Malita, Davao Occidental for debriefing.
In his statement, Maj. Gen. Noel Clement, the commander of 10th Infantry Division, urged the remaining rebels to lay down their arms “and receive Government support through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program and live a normal life in the mainstream society,” Clement added.
