AAK Davao hauls one gold, two silvers in 10th Kota Kinabalu Open kickfest

THE AAK (Association for the Advancement of Karatedo) Davao City chapter wound-up its campaign with a lone gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the recent 10th Kota Kinabalu Open Karate Championships held at the SM Luk Yuk Hall in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.Ian Carlos Pascual, a Grade 10 student of Lifestream Academy came up with AAK Davao’s lone gold medal in which he won in the +57kg Boys kumite event. He went against entries from host Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, India and Bangladesh.

AAK Davao which was part of team Philippines in the two-day international kickfest also got a silver finish from Atsuko Kaiyel Tan who claimed it in the 6 to 8 years-old girls kata. The Grade 1 student of Davao Christian High was the youngest entry for AAK Davao.

Adrian Paul Ilaya also had a silver medal count for AAK Davao won in the Junior Boys individual kata while Julian Ambrose Ramirez had two bronze finishes, with one in the Juniors -61kgs kumite and Juniors 61kg. individual kata and Aldren Solon in the boys kumite -35kgs.

AAK Davao also won the bronze medal in the team kata competition having Ramirez, Pascual and Ilaya on the line-up.

“With only five entries, at least everyone got a medal and I’m happy for that,” said AAK Davao chief instructor Rommel Tan who also thank their supporters – Jay and Joanne Ramirez, Jack and Emery Neble, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez and Commissioner Charles Maxey and Dexter So, President of the Davao City Sports Council Incorporated.

Tan also bared that team AAK Davao are now gearing up for the 11th Korean Open kickfest which will be in Busan, South Korea this May 31 to June 4.
