THE STO. NIÑO Chapel in Talomo Cemento, Davao City stood witness for sixty long years to the marvels and stories in this humble fishing community in this part of the city. For ten year now, the fiesta celebration of Sto. Niño Chapel was celebrated with a Sinulog Festival spearheaded by one of the pioneering families in Talomo Cemento, the Cantoja Family.


            This year’s Sinulog Festival was guided by the theme: “One Beat, One Dance, One Vision”. Street dancing opened the Sinulog Festival 2016 with a lively and colorful parade in the streets of Talomo proper. Once the street dancing reached the Talomo Cemento covered court, Judith Embalzado said the opening prayer in thanksgiving to Señor Santo Niño. Members of the board of Judges, committee chairmen, and choreographers entered the arena with a dance offering to the Holy Child Jesus. Madam Rosalia “Lotte” Cantoja-Espejo shared her welcome message with an inspired heart thanking everyone for coming and witnessing another memorable milestone in the Talomo Cemento Sinulog Festival history.

            Merlina Repamonte, the Sinulog Festival 2016 Chairman was tasked to read the mechanics and criteria for the Sinulog dance competition as well as presented to the audience the distinguished members of the board of judges. Competing entries of the Sinulog Festival 2016 were the following clusters: Sta. Maria & Nuestra Señora de Via; Angel of Peace; Saint Uriel; Saint Judiel & Saint Andrew; and, Saint Rafael.

            Sinulog Festival 2016 Committee members include: Rosalia Cantoja-Espejo, Merlina Repamonte, Amor Repamonte, Lolita Fernandez, Marites Sabayday, Rosalinda Nisnea, Evangeline Duran, Nene Nisnea, Lauro Repamonte, Mario Rebalde, Eslao Buar, Romeo Degorio, Junior Alquino, and Boy Alayon. Members of the Board of Judges were: Rev. Fr. Danny Dotollo, Rev. Fr. Dingdong Sargado, Rosalinda Cantoja-Veloria, Mr. Edwin Loma, and Marietta Agton Astillo. Master of Ceremonies: Romeo Gomez. Sound System provided by Councilor Edgar Ibuyan. Special Guest: Atty. John Christopher Tanjili Mahamud.
