600 runners seen in MBFEA Fun Run

SOME 600 runners are expected to answer the starting gun when the much-anticipated Mindanao Banana Farmers and Exporters Association Incorporated (MBFEA Inc.) Fun Run reels off this April 8, 6 a.m. on an out and back course starting at the Panabo City multi-purpose hall in Panabo City.

“We will be having these runners join the 3K and 6K routes,” said Gladys Garcia of the MBFEA Inc. in yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the SM City Davao.

Garcia who graced the weekly sports gab along with co-race director Dax Ang also bared that the fun run will be participated by mostly stakeholders of the banana industry and some coming from indigenous people group.

“A portion of the funds raised will go to the IP pupils of Basak Elementary School which is located in Talaingod, Davao del Norte,” she added.

Ang on the other hand, will co-race direct along with chief race official Erwin “Pastour” Emata who was best recalled as one of the first Filipino who conquered Mt. Everest.

“We will be giving cash prizes and medals to the top three winners for both 3K and 5K races in which the champion will be receiving P3,000 while the first and second runners-up will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively,” Ang said.

The MBFEA Fun Run aims to raise the awareness on the importance and contributions of the Cavendish banana industry to the region. It also to encourage local residents on the health benefits of consuming Cavendish bananas.

Backing the event are Joy Wing Mau Group, Davao International Container Terminal Incorporated, Davao Packaging Corporation, Davao Integrated Port and Stevedoring Services Corporation, Davao Fibreboard Packing Plant Incorporation, Steniel Mindanao Packaging Corporation, Magsaysay Shipping Lines, Province of Davao del Norte, Tagum City, LGU of Sto. Tomas, Nature Spring, ROX Ayala Abreeza, Yang Ming Shipping Philippines Incorporated and Envireau Pacific Incorporated.
