4 dead, 27 arrested in simultaneous drug raids

FOUR alleged drug pushers were killed in a reported shootout with authorities, while 27 others were arrested during a simultaneous drug operation was conducted in  different areas in the city starting yesterday midnight.

Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office, in an interview yesterday said 22 search warrants were implemented and seven buy-busts conducted by nine police precincts, except Marilog,Baguio and Paquibato .

The four drug suspects killed were identified as Jojit Obatonon alias Bobong Mandaya, an ex-convict and resident of Bonifacio Street of Brgy. 33-D at 1:30 a.m; Edward  Magno of Purok 2 in Central Ilang; Bobby Daquigan, 38, Renato Alamara of Baybay Kadato, Barangay Dumoy, Talomo District.

Chief Insp. Ronald L. Lao, commander of San Pedro Police Precinct, said Obatonon  was killed when he fired against the arresting officer in Kalye Putol at 1:30 a.m.

Daquigan was killed when he fired against the arresting officer in Mercedez Street, Barangay Aquino, Agdao at 4 a.m.

Chief Insp. Hamlet Lerios, commander of Sta. Ana Police Precinct, said Daquigan was considered as the top four drug suspects in their area of jurisdiction.

Recovered from Mandaya were a sachet of shabu and .38 caliber revolver; also recovered from Magno were one .38 revolver, assorted drug parpahernalia, two digital weighing scales. Meanwhile, two sachets of shabu, a .38 caliber pistol and assorted bullets were seized from Daquigan.

Four out of 27 arrested were identified as Elmar Kabag, 42 years old, a resident of Catalunan Pequeno in the city.

Kabag was a former scout ranger assigned in Julu, Sulu. According to him, he was dismissed from the service last 2011 for illegal possession of explosives. Seized from him were sachet of shabu and an airgun .

At 12:40 a.m., Glen Pantuhan, 29, of Sitio Pogi, Barangay Daliao  in Toril was arrested. Confiscated from him were six medium and one big sachet of shabu .

Roldan Hayag, 27, was also arrested in another search warrant served by Toril Police at Sitio Okoy of Barangay Crossing Bayabas at 5:20 a.m.

Supt. Jed G. Clamor, commander of the Toril precinct, said Hayag was considered among the top ten illegal drug personalities in the area.

Seized from him were 12 sachets of shabu, caliber .356 pistol with two live ammunitions and one fired cartridge.

Authorities were able to confiscate also shabu worth P30,600, P122.50 of  marijuana, one motorcycle, taxi unit,caliber .45 pistol, three .38 revolvers; airgun rifle, 1.22 cal magnum, 1.22 mini-revolver, homemade airgun ,one 9mm pistol and 53 assorted live ammunitions from the operations.

According to Driz, despite their efforts to cut illegal drugs in the city, some people still continue to flout the law.

“Our efforts will still continue to lessen, if not eradicate the drugs,” she said.

Meanwhile, the sachets of shabu and marijuana are now in the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-XI.

Those arrested will face a case for violation of RA 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” and violation of RA 10591 or “Illegal Possession of Firearms,“ violation for RA 9561  or Illegal Possession of Explosives and violation of the Comelec Omnibus Election code.

Last Feb. 26, three drug suspects were killed and 21 others were arrested in a simultaneous drug raid in the different areas in the city. Police seized shabu ,marijuana and  assorted  firearms  with live ammunitions .

Three females out of 21 drug suspect were arrested during seven separate buy bust operations with seven of ten search warrants served.
