38th PAL Interclub Gavino sparks Apo’s charge

CEBU CITY -Leaning on his long drives and steady putts, Enrico “Jing” Gavino sparked Apo Golf and Country Club’s charge scoring 39 points to continue Davao City’s title hopes in the ongoing 68th PAL Interclub Men’s Regular competitions at the Club Filipino Golf and Country Club, here.

Gavino’s 39 points was backed by Juan Karloz Alba’s 33 while Jorge Martinez and Leo Fusilero had 31 and 25, respectively as Apo Golf tallied a total of 333 points to tie with Alta Vista Golf and Country Club after three days of action and both placed second behind leader Alabang Golf (355 points).

Glen Yap’s 20 did not count for Apo as they rallied from ninth place on opening day going to a possible title grasp today at the Cebu Golf and Country Club, pinning its hopes on Day 1 leader Jose “Chickoy” Saavedra Jr., Albernito “Denden” de Castro, Benjamin Leparto and Thomas Francis “Toffee” Tionko.

Another Davao City bet, Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club is currently at sixth place in the same division tied with Riviera Golf with similar 323 points.

Leo Francis Yap’s 31 highlighted yesterday’s Rancho Palos’ comeback from 10th place on Day 1 supported by Kuresh Samanodi and former jungolfer Marc Lopez had 29 and 26, respectively while Christopher Tan added 22. Randy Cadiongan’s 15 did not count.

Davao City Golf Club is at 9th spot in the 16-team roster with 304 points. Yesterday’s scores came from Andrew Bautista who led them with 27 points added by Pitt Jun Batu (26), Elizer Villarosa (25) and Benhur Villarosa (23). Lawyer Larry Pasquil had 23 but did not count.

Negro Golf and Country Club is at third with 328 points while Valley Golf and Tagaytay Highlands are at fourth and fifth places with 327 and 324 points, in that order.

Hotel H2O, Travelife, Boeing International Corporation, Business Mirror and GE Aviation are sponsoring the PAL Interclub Seniors and Regular Men’s events. Other backers include Mareco Broadcasting Network (Crossover), People Asia Magazine, Whealth Incorporated, Aerospace, Uniqlobe Travelware Co. Inc. Tanduay Distillers and Intercontinental Manila.
