371 apprehended in Oplan Tambay

Police apprehended 371 residents in the city in its 24-hour Oplan Tambay operation starting Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, the spokesperson of the Police Regional Office XI, said Oplan Tambay aims to intensify the enforcement of national laws and local ordinances to prevent street crimes.

The 24-hour operation was implemented in the city.

Driz said a total of 159 persons were apprehended for violation of Republic Act 4136 (the Land Transportation and Traffic Code) during the conduct of checkpoints. Six vehicles were impounded.

Driz said 61 minors were rescued for various petty offenses.

The operation also apprehended 82 for smoking in public places, 14 for not wearing shirts or half-naked and six for drinking in public places or streets.

The rest were apprehended for violation of traffic codes.

In his statement, Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, PRO regional director, said the operation aims to prevent any untoward incident during night time that would be triggered by the presence of loiterers.

“It is also in response to the mandate of President Rodrigo Duterte for law enforcers to be strict against loiterers, saying they are ‘potential trouble for the public,’” Morales said.
