300 CEOs to join event: organizer

ABOUT 5,000 participants, including those from Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga), are expected to join in the four-day Livelihood Exchange (LIVEX), an event filled with different activities.

Of the different activities, Lizabel Holganza, event organizer of LIVEX 2015 and vice president of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Davao Inc., said yesterday in the weekly Club 888 forum at Marco Polo Davao Hotel that the major event is the Bimp-Eaga Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Forum.

Holganza said they expect to gather about 300 CEOs during the forum, which will be conducted on August 19 at SMX Davao Convention. Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, chair of the Senate committee on trade, commerce and entrepreneurship, will serve as the keynote speaker.

“This will highlight key development trends, potentials and prospects of the sub-regions as well as discuss and address issues and concerns to pursue the goals of economic integration through ICT development,” said Samuel Matunog, president of ICT Davao Inc.

Topics include “Steering Asean for 2015 Integration: ICT Development Initiatives in the Bimp-Eaga Subregion,” “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Toward Building a Business Startups Ecosystem in Mindanao and Bimp-Eaga Development Corridors,” “Women in ICT Development” and “Electronic Commerce Platform for the Asean Economic Community and Beyond.”

Other activities during LIVEX include BPO Developers Forum on August 18 at Seda Abreeza Hotel and events to be held in SMX Davao Convention Center such as Virtual Reality Jam and Erectus Launch on August 19-20, BPO Fiesta on August 20, Bimp-Eaga ICT Sub-Cluster Meeting on Aug. 20, Hack-a-thon on August 18 and LIVEX Exhibition on August 19-20.

There will be also a two-day training of Philippine Computer Society Information and Computing Accreditation Board on August 19-20.

The public can have hands-on experience of virtual reality using Oculus Rift technology during the two-day Virtual Reality Jam at SMX Convention Center. Different ICT products of 40 startups will also be featured in LIVEX Exhibition that would have 20 booths.

LIVEX 2015 is hosted by ICT Davao Inc. In a briefer of the four-day event, “LIVEX 2015 is a series of associated events organized in cooperation with various private sector ICT organizations, with the support of government agencies in the Philippines and the Bimp-Eaga region.”

“These events highlight the critical role of human resource development, the role of women, the promotion of e-commerce, networking and linkages, and the capability of ICT to be an enable of Asean integration,” Matunog said.
