276 workers win case versus construction firm

THE DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI has awarded about P2.7 million to employees of a construction company that failed to address key deficiencies.

Although he did not identify the company involved, Labor Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante said the monetary award, which will be distributed 276 employees, could over their wages with each of them received P19,971 as compensation for failure of the company to pay their holiday pay, 13th month, non-remittance contribution for their Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund and Philippine Health Insurance Corp.

The Mediation, Arbitration and Legal Service Unit inspected the company that resulted in the awarding of money to the employees. The ruling came about after the unit visited the company on a complaint of the workers.

“This is just one of the many examples of the efforts exerted by the Department in settling cases and coming up with mutual agreements for both the employees and the employers here in the region,” Agravante said as he extended his expression of his gratitude for the cooperation both of the company management and its workers .

Last month, the company deposited the amount as the employees started filing their claims, 67 of them were received as of last month.
