2018 DACS Sportsfest set Sept. 1-8

Davao City – Some 24 schools are to show their wares in the coming 2018 Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) Basic Education Sportsfest which reels off this September 1 to 8 at separate venues.

“This year’s opening ceremonies will be held at the St. Peter College of Toril which will highlight the parade of teams and the cheerdance competition,” said DACS Executive Director Jimmie Lou P. Dela Vega in yesterday’s press launching.

Dela Vega was joined by DACS Sports Consultant Billy Cruzada, Cheerdance and Volleyball coordinator Dr. Leah M. Cabang and Danny Lowe Lico of St. Peter College of Toril.

Seeing action in this year’s sportsfest are Anthony & Mark Cavanis Elementary School, Assumption Academy of Penaplata, Assumption College of Davao, Ateneo de Davao University, Fr. Justin Russoillo School of Davao, Gabriel Taborin College of Davao Inc., Holy Cross of Agdao, Holy Cross of Babak, Holy Cross of Bunawan, Holy Cross College of Calinan, Holy Cross of Davao College, Holy Cross of Mintal, Holy Cross College of Sasa, Jesus and Mary Thevenet School, Our Lady of Fatima Academy, Philippine Women’s College of Davao, San Lorenzo College of Davao, San Pedro College, St. John Paul II College of Davao, St. Joseph’s School of Toril, St. Paul College of Davao, St. Peter College of Toril, Stella Maris Academy of Davao and University of Immaculate Conception.

Dela Vega and company also stressed that participants must be bona fide students of school year 2018-2019. Grade School athletes should not have been born before the year 2006 while High School athletes should not have been born before the year 2001.

Events to be contested for Grade School are basketball, volleyball, chess, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, swimming, football and rugby. For High School are basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, taekwondo, sepak takraw, swimming, lawn tennis, baseball, softball, track and field, 3on3 basketball, girls futsal, football and bowling.

“3on3 basketball and rugby are the newest addition to the list of games,” Dela Vega said.

On the other hand, seeing action on opening day for the cheerdance competition are San Pedro College, University of Immaculate Conception, Assumption College of Davao, Our Lady of Fatima, Holy Cross of Mintal and Stella Maris Academy.

“Stella Maris Academy is the defending champion but they will have a good run in this year’s title to be contested by the other squads. This will spice up the opening ceremonies,” Cabang added.
