Ateneo starts title hunt, plays Ford Academy in opener

DEFENDING champion Ateneo de Davao University takes on Ford Academy of the Arts in the opener of this year’s 2017 Fil Oil Flying V Junior Invitational basketball tournament which tips off today at the RMC gym.

The defending champs now parades in roster having new headcoach Jess Evangelio manning the plays. The Blue Knight bested Assumption College of Davao in last year’s finals.

Assumption College of Davao on the other hand, plays St. Mary’s College of Tagum in the second match-up set at 9:30 a.m. while Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High battles Cor Jesu College of Digos City in the third match at 11 a.m.

Afternoon matches will have Davao Jones Academy next to EMAR Learning Center at 1:30 p.m. while Holy Cross of Davao College takes on Philippine Women’s Colelge at 3:30 p.m. Jose Maria Colleges plays  Holy Child College of Davao at 5 p.m. to complete today’s opener tussle.

Organized by Fil Oil Flying V headed by Toto Villavicencio and Jerry Alino along with the Kilusan at Alyansang Samahan ng mga Manlalaro sa Dabaw (KASAMA-Davao) Incorporated with president Rolando Tagaytay, this year’s grand opening rites will have PBA Partylist’s Congressman Jherico B. Nograles as guest speaker and SBP-XI Regional Director and Presidential Assistant on Sports Glenn Y. Escandor as guest.

Also supporting the event are Congressman Carlo Nograles, Haviana’s, Mr. Freddie Mendoza of Cargo Air, Mr. Toby Ang of Angcore, Mr. Michael Te and Mr. Lito Cabrera.

Cash prizes awaits the winners with the champion team bringing home P15,000 and a trophy while the second and third placers will receive P10,000 and P5,000.

The opening ceremonies will start shortly before the first game with the parade of teams and respective muses.
