2017 Escandor Cup Ateneo voluntarily submits fault; forfeits game

ATENEO de Davao University voluntarily admitted in committing a rule violation thus forfeiting its first game victory in the ongoing 2017 Emilio Escandor Cup Inter-School Junior basketball tournament.

Ateneo headcoach Miguel Solitaria voluntarily admitted to Ronnel Leuterio of the organizing SBP-XI of fielding an ‘overage’ player on its first game against Jose Maria Colleges in which they won, 78-50. Solitaria fielded versatile forward Dom Cane on their tournament debut which he was found one year older on the required age limit.

The league follows the 18 years-old and under or 1999 years and below age format.

“This is a good gesture by Ateneo. There were no protest filed after the game and yet they voluntarily admitted,” Leuterio said.

Ateneo de Davao University gets its chances to play without Cane and an eye for their first win when they face EMAR Learning Center School on March 4, 11 a.m. as the league resumes at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Other matches set on March 4 include Davao Jones Academy versus Ford Academy of the Arts at 8 a.m., Philippine Women’s College against Assumption College of Davao at 9:30 a.m., Holy Child College of Davao next to Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High at 1 p.m., Davao City National High versus Jose Maria Colleges at 2:30 p.m. and Agro Industrial against Holy Cross of Sasa at 4 p.m. –
