2 rebels give up

TWO MEMBERS of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on Monday afternoon.

Captain Al Anthony Pueblas, the civil-military operations (CMO) officer of the Philippine Army’s 402nd Infantry Brigade, told TIMES that rebel returnees used to operate under the NPA’s Guerilla Front Committee 30 in North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

Pueblas identified the two as Ka Alden, 28, a resident of Barangay Tina in San Miguel and Ka Black, 25, a resident of Brgy. Cabangahan in Tago, also in Surigao del Sur.

The army officer said Ka Alden and Ka Black surrendered to the 16th Special Forces Company (SFC) based in Brgy Magroyong, San Miguel at around 1:40 p.m. Monday.

The returnees submitted a .38 caliber pistol, a fragmentation hand grenade and a homemade shot gun.

They are now in the custody of the 16th SFC for debriefing.

Brig. Gen. Franco Nemesion Gacal, the 402nd Brigade Commander, said the surrender of the two rebels is a good start for the year.

Gacal said they expect more rebels to give up in the coming months.
