2 NPAs killed in clash

TWO MEMBERS of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with government troops in Barangay Carmen, Baguio District around 3:25 p.m. on June 27.

Capt. Jerry Lamosao, the spokesperson of 10th Infantry Division, said soldiers encountered more or less 30 communist guerrillas, believed to be members of Pulang Bagani Company (PBC) 2 and PBC 3 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) under alias Bobby at Barangay Carmen, Baguio District.

The fighting ended after two hours resulting in the death of two rebels and the wounding of one soldier. They also found one improvised bomb.

Another clash took place at 5:34 p.m of the same day while the same troops were clearing the area. But the sporadic gunfire only lasted for five minutes.

Meanwhile, helicopters departed from Tactical Operations Group (TOG) XI to provide support to the troops. The wounded soldier was evacuated for medical treatment at Camp Panacan Hospital

Maj. Gen. Noel S Clement, commander of the 10th ID, commended the troops for their accomplishment.

“The NPA terrorists are not welcome in a ‘cleared’ barangay,” he said. “With this, their resurgence was immediately reported to us. We are grateful to the people of Barangay Carmen for their continued support and cooperation in maintaining peace and order.”
